The Only Constant in Life Is Change

In life, certain things are guaranteed—seasons change, birthdays come around, children grow up, and new careers emerge. These transitions are a part of the natural rhythm of life. And while life continues to move forward, we are asked to move forward with it: to learn, to grow, and to adapt.

Yet, for many, transitions don’t feel natural at all. They can feel overwhelming, uncertain—even terrifying. Why is that?

Why Life Transitions Trigger Anxiety

Whether it’s a new job, a major move, the end of a relationship, or becoming an empty nester, transitions bring change—and change brings anxiety. That anxiety often whispers things like:

  • “You won’t be able to make it in that new career you worked so hard to achieve.”

  • “You’ll never survive without your husband or wife.”

  • “You didn’t plan well enough to move forward.”

These thoughts don’t come from a place of truth. They come from the psychological disruption that transitions create. During a major life change, your sense of identity is often challenged. You’re being asked to re-learn who you are in a new context—and that internal work is no small feat.

Anxiety and transition go hand in hand. But they don’t have to control you.
